The Genetics Symposium:

Advancements in Genetics with Expert Talks

The Symposium

Keynote Speeches followed by Breakout Sessions

May 19th 2024

9:00 am

The purpose of the event is to highlight recent advancements in genetics, inspire students to further their interest in genetics, and show the breadth and expansive nature of the field. We strongly believe the symposium will be incredibly interesting and inspiring, and the breakout rooms on computational genetics, medical genetics, and genetic counseling will encourage discussion and debate between attendees, enhancing the learning experience and connections within the community.

The event will consist of a brief overview of genetics, two keynote speakers, breakout rooms discussing interdisciplinary fields within genetics, and a panel discussion with all of the breakout speakers. There will be a break before the breakout rooms in which food and drinks will be available.

Los Altos Genetics Club

What is the Genetics Club?

The Genetics Club is a club at Los Altos High School focused on spreading awareness about recent advancements in genetics, inspiring students to consider a career in genetics, and creating a community in which students can discuss and learn about genetics. We are a group of students who are excited by the continued advancements and potential in the field and believe it will be one of our generations' greatest advancements. Through the symposium, we intend to encourage more engagement in genetics within our school, neighboring schools, and our local community. We hope that everyone can join us for the opportunity to learn about genetics and the future of medicine.
